Default Does the trade chat have any reason to remain ?

Personally when trying to buy items in chat, I used to try placing my WTB in the trade channel first. This stopped after a few times where I would get no responce over the trade channel, but I got one or two responces the instant I said it into local chat. I've come to realise that even the people trying to sell things turn the trade channel off.

So I'm woundering if the trade channel has any purpose since no-one seems to ever use it, and I can't see any way to make them.

If you get filters implemented then people would just figure out ways around them, untill you reach the point where the filters annoy people chatting but the spammers still get around them (like how the anti-piracy coding on software hurts the legitimate purchaser, but the software pirates still disable it eaisly)

If an auction house gets implemented, then the trade channel would also become useless.

Then again, if the trade chat was removed it would only (very slightly) lessen the load on ANETs servers. If its kept, I'll just leave it turned off.

So, does anyone have a good reason as to why the trade chat sould remain when almost no-one uses it ?
Or some way to force it to be used as its intended to be used ? Be specific eg. dont say "filters" say "filter these text strings:"

Well, I use it. But in many areas, the trade chat is largely ignored. I often see (what I presume are) bots in LA, Droks, and Kaineng spamming the local channel. I know I've traded with a couple bots before, cause they have an auto response to PM's.

How do trade bots respond to price offers?

I still use trade chat. However what I buy depends on how much money I have and what's being offered. How much trade is going on is also an issue. If there are too many people hawking things, I tend to buy squat.

True, as the problem is people not using trade chat and there being no way to force them to

lol Bilateralrope i just love your avatar for some reason idk what its from or anything its just really cool looking.

I don't see a purpose for it so removing it would just make it so i dont get to see a variety of pretty colored text O_o meh. Doesn't matter, few people use it, few people listen to it. Chuck it.

I use trade chat all the time its very useful when you're looking for buyers instead of spamming just WTS (I usually put local off).

I sure hope they will implement a chat filter before the new game becomes like the old one. Did those retards who sell in All channel ever think i dont wanna buy stuff and so i turned off Trade Channel? I just wanna play the game and find my own weapons?? I wanna talk and answer to other ppl playing this game? I was forced to turn off all channels so i could even talk to my guildies or team.

Trade channel is there for a reason and Anet should punish those who dont respect other 90% normal ppl who just wanna chat and play not look at nonstop jibberish rolling over and over ...

Punishment? Like maybe 10 min of mute on all channels ?? How?? Simple. They always spam the same stuff all over so if it is repeated (not looking for additional characters they put in so they can spam even faster) they are punished. There could be some filter ignoring those who look for players and recruiters maybe ( LFG LFP). In the trade chat they can spam their mother off if they wish since i have it disabled anyway.

Even better way - let me write my own rules on what to ignore completely in at least All channel. First there will be like 5min work to input rules and then a 70% drop of spam in my window. WOW. Every now and then i could update and thats it. Problem solved.

Imho the auction house wont help a lot but i may be surprised.

Or have some feature where you control+click on the item, choose a price or item trade for it and choose b/o and/or s/o, then it becomes a bind on your numpad or any old unused keys, and you can have up to 3 sell binds at once that spam a perfect grammar, clear message, in trade chat.

You could also use it for looking for groups (make a bind of choosing 'LFG/GLF - Profession - lvl - types'

eg

LFG - Necromancer - 20 - MM, SS, Orders

(although apart from some preset builds you'd need to be able to write your own in that section)

It also might help stop scammers in trade selling stuff they say is rare to newbs

Trade channel is useful for large multi-regional cities, its enough to hop from town to town without having to do every region too.

The console doesn't even allow me to spam....even if i advertise in local then switch to Trade i have to wait before i can paste else it gets rejected. I looked to find option to deselect whatever stops me doing it but couldn't find anything. I just wish it was same for everyone :P

I won't name anyone, although i think we should name and shame, but this is one of my biggest pet hates when u see this kind of advert

Even without spammers the trade and normal chat channels get overloaded with people selling things in Lions Arch and Ascalon. Which is why I'd kinda like to see them to impliment a stall system for selling items/materials that I saw in Silkroad; so that you can sell items by allowing people to see what you want to sell and the price you're asking for for that item. This way you don't have to continually spam what you want to sell in order for people to see what you want to sell.

I also think that a new system against spammers needs to be put in place, where if you message more than a specified amount in a given time you're banned from using chat for a certain amount of time. Which will hopefully curtail the kind of spam avert.s that BogusDude mentioned:

Spammer: WTS Enchant Axe mod 20% ___________________1
Spammer: WTS Enchant Axe mod 20% ___________________2
Spammer: WTS Enchant Axe mod 20% ___________________3
Spammer: WTS Enchant Axe mod 20% ___________________4

Spammer: WTS Enchant Axe mod 20% ___________________6
Spammer: WTS Enchant Axe mod 20% ___________________7
Spammer: WTS Enchant Axe mod 20% ___________________8

But I don't know if these things would be possible impliment or not.

I think the easiest solution is the ignore list... They make it longer i will quite happily put every dickhead on it who sits in ToA spamming the example in BogusDudes post. LA, Ascalon and Droknars dis 1 i'm not bothered about, if i actually need something other than items i won't go there, but when your best chance of finding anything is ToA dis 1, you have little choice but to keep All Chat open, or i guess you could sit at the side w/ All chat off saying Monk LFG to FoW and wait for an invite

Well I must say in my 6 months of playing I've never seen a decent coversation in Guild wars apart from "your a noob" "no You are" and constant bickering ugh

I think when the auction house comes in it'll be great just put your items on leave it carry on with the game. But it annoyies me so much when you get people shouting "use Trade channel N00B" do you know how hard and time consuming it is to sell items, I remeber having a perfect necro staff it took me two days to sell it. Did I use local chat you bet I did I used both Local and Trade to be presise.

Trade channel is very hard to sell on as its dark red which is so difficult to read its stupid, whilst local is white so its more easier to read.

I think that yes Trade channel should either be deleted or chage the font color.

And also what is your prob with LFG and LFP how else are they going to find people? self invite? please..

/Signed Trade channel is useless

trade channel = good. community = bad.
Removing ignore list limitation is ideal solution for local spammers problem.

There are a few solutions you can do yourself.
1 - Don't go to D1 of any major trading town unless absolutely necessary.
2 - Turn off Pub chat.
3 - Don't let it bother you so much.

See Evilsod's reply in my thread - local chat is for finding group, most people can not just turn it off.

Hehe, its truly amazing how few people seem to think that though. It seems like you have more chance finding groups if you advertise in the Trade chat and turn off All chat...
